5 beginners’ tips for FIFA16 Ultimate Team
One of the main draws of FIFA since FIFA10 is its fantasy football mode, Ultimate Team. It’s one the game’s most iconic draws, allowing players to build a team with any players they desire, in whatever formation they please, which will (hopefully) take them to the Division 1 title.
However many FIFA users have yet to enter the wonderful world of Ultimate Team because they don’t know how to start. From not understanding team chemistry to not knowing how to build a team, there are many reasons why beginning that road to glory may be tricky for some. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you start your journey to Division 1.
1) AVOID PACKS
This could be it! The pack where you get that Ronaldo or Messi in...and out comes a Mertersacker instead. The amount of coins we throw away opening packs in the hopes that we will get a massive player is similar to how much money Manchester City throws at the players they want. Unlike City though, the chances of us getting the player we need or want is extremely low. One of the most common mistakes of players new to Ultimate Team is that they open packs to get players. Buying players from the transfer market can be a much better choice as you can probably get the players you need at a fraction of the price you pay for a pack. So let the players with money open packs and pick up their unwanted players on the market for your team, taking that 66 rated team to a more respectable 80 faster than that sweaty Ibarbo running at your defense.
2) COMPLETE THE MANAGER TASKS
If you want the thrill of opening a pack early in your Ultimate Team career, you can complete manager tasks to earn a free gold pack. There are about 12 – 18 relatively simple tasks to complete and they can range from changing your kit to playing a game in the tournament section of Ultimate Team. You’ll get the “rush” of opening a pack and you’ll be 2000 coins richer which you can use to build your team. You’ll quickly learn that packs are overrated but on the off chance you get a player like Robben, you’ll be all set to be a world beater.
3) BE A BARGIN HUNTER
The transfer market on Ultimate Team can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Take your time and find the cheapest card of the player you want, because let’s face it, none of us have as much money as Madrid. Use the filters to set a maximum price range and slowly go up or down until you find the cheapest one. You’d be surprised at the money you could potentially save by doing this as lots of users list players they don’t want for lower than what they are actually worth just to make a quick buck. The transfer market also crashes from time to time because of events happening in the game, such as Black Friday and Team of the Year. If you’ve got your eye on a certain big player, try your luck at waiting for the market to crash and you just might score by picking them up for sometimes as low as half their usual price.
4) SOLID SQUADS ARE THE WAY TO GO
Apart from the manager tasks you should complete, you've also got to be a good manager in terms of the squad you build. When setting out on your Ultimate Team journey, don’t spend all your coins on one expensive player. Having a superstar in a bad team that can’t support him won’t win you any matches. One of the best ways to start is to build a Barclays premier league (BPL) squad. Not only will this make it easy for you to have a full chemistry team, but the BPL is full of quality players in every position for a relatively cheap price. If you'd rather a different league, try looking at the French Ligue 1 or Seria A as they are also packed full of quality players at a good value.
5) PLAN AHEAD
Even seasoned Ultimate Team players are guilty of buying a player on the market and then realizing they won’t fit into their current squad or a hybrid they’re building due to chemistry reasons. This is an annoying mistake to make because it means you not only have to go back onto the market and find the player you really want, but it also is a waste of your coins. Even if you manage to sell the player bought at the price you paid, you’ll lose money because of the tax on the market. To avoid this problem, plan the squad you want to build ahead of time. Since FIFA15 there has been the Concept Squad feature which allows you to place the players you want to buy in squad to see how the chemistry lines up before you even buy them. Alternatively you could use sites like Futhead which has a squad builder feature.
Now that you’ve got a few tips on how to begin your Ultimate Team there is no excuse not to dive headfirst into this brilliant game mode and compete with players from all around the world. FIFA16 is already available on the market on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, so go and grab yourself a copy and start building your Ultimate Team.
