Gaming
Stardew Valley is undoubtedly one of the greatest games of this genereation, if not ever. Anyone who has put any time into it understands how close to perfect this is, as thoughts of 'just one more virtual day' continue late into the all too real night, and before you know it it’s 6am, but at least your crops are doing well.
The daily cycle, the objectives you set for yourself, the relationships you form and need to keep and of course all those carefully planned out harvest days will keep you coming back for hours upon hours, and breaking the habit is near impossible. We dread to think how many hours we’ve put into Stardew Valley across all of the platforms it’s now on.
But for those of us that play the PC version (or on Mac or Linux) there’s an extra level to Stardew Valley if you care to look for it, and that’s in the healthy modding scene. There are now countless mods to sort through for Stardew Valley, meaning finding the best ones is not the easiest of tasks. But that’s why we decided to download the Stardew Modding API, a handy tool for managing almost all Stardew Valley mods, and took a look around to bring you the best Stardew valley mods for you to try. Enjoy.
CJB Item Spawner by CJB
For some areas of Stardew Valley, RNG (random number generation) is a big factor, and that can mean you’re searching for one item for hours with no luck. Fortunately the CJB Item Spawner allows you to instantly grab any item with just a few clicks. Now if you want to cheat the system and get millions of seeds for free then you can do that, but the best use for this is to grab something you desperately need and not abuse it. You’ll also need this to take advantage of some of the other mods in this list.
The mod is super simple when installed – you just press the I button on your keyboard and a UI with every item in the game is shown. You can search for what you want and when you find it a simple click will add it to your inventory. Now getting that one Gold Bar to finish up your Gold Hoe is easier than ever.
NPC Map Locations by Bouhm
We don’t even have to ask if this has ever happened to you – this is a rite of passage in Stardew Valley. You’re frantically running around Pelican Town looking for the one person you need to find to complete a timed quest, or looking for your crush to give them their second president of the week in the dying hours of Sunday afternoon. But alas, you fail to find them and everything is reset. Bad times.
But now that never needs to happen again, as the fantastic NPC Map Locations mod does exactly what it says on the tin. It shows you where all NPCs are on the map in real time. Simply by opening up the map you can see if Penny is in the museum or if she’s taken Jaz and Vincent to the playground, you can find out if Robin will actually let you build something or if she’s at the pesky yoga class again, and you can find out if the Wizard ever leaves his tower. This is perhaps the most useful mod out there and is a must even for casual players.
Seasonal Victorian Buildings and Flowers by eemie
One of the the things that always surprised us about a game as carefully handcrafted as Stardew Valley was that between seasons not much in the way of visuals changed, but fortunately the modders soon took care of that. One of our favourites is this pack that changes all the farm buildings into a Victorian style, and these change every season. The autumn version of our farm house is certainly our favourite: we could as well be in New England somewhere, kicking up piles of orange leaves and savouring the crisp air. This pack also includes a few new look flowers, which can make your house and farm buildings look even cooler, if you’re better at landscaping than we are. You’re going to need to grab the Seasonal Immersion mod before you can install this content pack, but the payoff is certainly worth it.
Teh's Fishing Overhaul by TehPers
When you’ve put as many hours as us into Stardew Valley, the fishing system feels natural, and we’re now disappointed every time we don’t get a perfect catch. But for newcomers, the fishing system is not easy to master, and can be incredibly frustrating. It also seems to have a weird amount of random chance and doesn’t convey information particularly well.
Fortunately, TehPers came in and reworked the whole thing, making it slightly easier to catch fish, adding in extra challenges such as streaks that can allow you to catch higher quality fish, and in what is perhaps the most underrated feature, even a pop up that tells you what fish you could catch in your current location. This is how the fishing system should have been in the first place.
Get Dressed by Jinxiewinxie and Advize
Stardew Valley has a pretty good character creation system, but for some it wasn’t enough and that’s where this mod comes in. By simply adding a dresser with a mirror to your farm’s bedroom you can change your appearance whenever you feel like it, and there are even extra customisation options not available in the base game, ranging from new body types through to different coloured lipstick. With this mod you really can make it feel like your farmer is really you.
Farm Expansion by Advize
We’ll admit that the first time we played through Stardew Valley, we ignored pretty much everything else and just focused on filling up our farm with crops to make the most amount of money possible. But once we accomplished this we realised there was no space left for trees, animals or any of our artisan goods productions, and so reluctantly we remodelled our whole farm to complete those all important Community Centre quests.
Had we installed this Farm Expansion mod then we wouldn’t have had an issue, as this adds another farming plot, the same size as the standard farm, just to the west of your farm. This functions exactly the same as your farm so you can do anything you want with it, and offers up a great way to make even more money, if that’s your thing.
Bathroom after 2nd House upgrade by DevilBro
Upgrading your house in Stardew Valley takes a lot of resources and time and really isn’t easy. And even then, when the house is upgraded it can often feel a little underwhelming, as you realised those precious Hard Wood pieces could have been better used elsewhere. But fear not, as this mod makes your house even better after the second upgrade.
Once you hit this milestone, your house will have a bathroom, situated just off your bedroom. The bathroom is a pretty big space, and even includes a fully working bath that will recover stamina, just like the pool at the spa in the north of the town. It’s a little change, but one that makes your home even cooler.
