Born in Wisla, Poland, Adam Malysz began his professional ski jumping career in 1995 and enjoyed moderate success during his first two seasons competing on the World Cup circuit. However, everything would change during the 2000-01 season when he won the famed Four Hills Tournament.
Following this victory, Adam went on to dominate the season as he reeled off five consecutive World Cup wins. He would also claim the gold medal in the normal hill event and silver in the large hill at the 2001 World Championships.
For the next decade, Adam would secure his legacy as one of the greatest-ever ski jumpers. Among his accomplishments are 39 World Cup victories, four World Cup titles, four individual medals at the Winter Games and four individual World Championship gold medals (an all-time record). He is also the only three-time winner of the Nordic Tournament and is a former ski-flying world record holder.
The Pole officially retired from ski jumping in March of 2011 but it wasn’t long before he was chasing success in a very different sport. Adam decided to enter the world of rally driving and in 2012 entered the gruelling Dakar Rally, finishing in 37th place overall. He would then finish 15th in 2013 and 13th in 2014.
While his impressive showings at the Dakar showcased his ability behind the wheel, it is his exploits on skis that have secured him legendary status. Ski jumping has become a national sport in Poland and Adam has now taken on an active role in discovering the best new talent in the country after being elected as the CEO of the Polish Ski Federation.
