Born in the Netherlands, young speed skater Angel Daleman has surpassed even the loftiest expectations with her trajectory to date. With its rich tradition of speed-skating success and an unparalleled track record for producing stars of the sport, even her home country has never produced a junior world champion as young as Daleman was when she became overall Junior World Champion in 2023, aged just 15 years and 327 days.
That overall success in Inzell, Germany, was the result of a dominant string of performances that saw her win gold in the 1,000m, 1,500m, Mass Start, Team Sprint and Team Pursuit, as well as silver in the 500m and bronze in the 3,000m. There was no event in which she did not claim a medal.
The following year saw her underline that dominance at world junior level with three individual golds and a team bronze at the Winter Youth Olympics in Gangwon, South Korea, before winning five of seven events at the World Junior Speed Skating Championships in Hachinohe, Japan.
At the beginning of the 2024/25 season she made her ISU Speed Skating World Cup debut in Nagano, but had to wait until her second appearance, in Beijing, to grab a spot on the podium; taking bronze in both 1,000m and 1,500m, setting a new personal best in each.
With such promise for a bright future at the top of both short-track and long-track competition, we can't wait to see what the next few years have in store for Angel Daleman.
