Corbin Leaverton is one of the youngest aces in off-road competition. His resume includes World Off-Road Championships (WORCS) and Best in the Desert (BITD) wins. After displaying his proficiency on the dunes and winning the Red Bull Scramble Series title, the Nuevo, Californian is preparing for his next challenge: the 2025 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia, as part of the Red Bull Off-Road Junior Team.
“The longest event that I usually do is the Vegas to Reno,” Leaverton said of the 500-mile BITD race. “So this long-form endurance-style racing is a little bit new to me, but it has probably been the primary goal for me throughout my career.”
Leaverton’s love of motorsports started on dirt bikes before he went to grade school. He doesn’t come from a racing family, but the Leavertons shared a passion for the outdoors. As the popularity of side-by-side vehicles grew, so did Leaverton’s opportunity to race.
“Ultimately, I figured out a way to get my program going,” Leaverton said. “With factory support from Polaris, they really, really helped my career flourish.”
Leaverton won his first SXS Pro Stock championship in 2019 at 18. He transitioned to the WORCS Pro Production class in 2020 and later, BITD competition. The introduction of the Red Bull Scramble Series enabled Leaverton to prove he was a “jack of all trades.”
“I was able to show my skill and ability there as well as my personality,” Leaverton said.
Leaverton will pilot a Taurus T3 Max in his inaugural Dakar Rally run. With 7,700 km to conquer, he’s realistic that his learning curve will be steep.
“I don’t want to downplay the challenge that it is,” Leaverton said. “It’s a huge deal. But my expectations as a competitor is to go there to win.”
