A long-standing member of the Austrian national team, Dominik Landertinger enjoyed a remarkable biathlon career, competing in three Winter Games and collecting an impressive array of medals.
Following plenty of success as a junior, Dominik claimed a silver medal for his part in the men’s relay skiing event in Vancouver in 2010. Likened to a ‘machine’ out on the cross-country track, he was also incredibly talented with a rifle.
This impressive combination enabled him to notch up a lengthy list of podium spots after first appearing on the scene in 2008. In addition to his medals from 2010 and 2014, Dominik also struck gold at the 15km mass start race at the 2009 World Championships in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
He wasn't always hooked on the arduous dual discipline event, however. Dominik first set his sights on a career as a ski jumper, but he soon realised he had more to offer and his phenomenal cross-country abilities allowed him to take his time on the shooting range, meaning his opponents could never feel safe for a second.
In 2016, Dominik helped the Austrian team to fourth place overall in the biathlon World Championships, winning numerous individual events along the way. He was also part of the bronze medal-winning Austrian relay team at the 2017 World Championships in Hochfilzen and in 2018 he took bronze in PyeongChang in the 20km individual.
He was back in the medals again in February of 2020, taking bronze in the 20km individual at the IBU World Championships, before announcing his retirement from the sport two months later.
