Griffin Colapinto first captured the surfing world's attention in 2016 when he went viral with an incredible last-minute air-reverse to win a stacked Qualifying Series heat at the Hawaii Pro.
As an 18-year-old in 2017, he then made the final of the WSL's World Junior Championship and used that result to kickstart his season, finishing the year winning the prestigious Triple Crown in Hawaii en route to claiming top spot on the Qualifying Series rankings, sealing his place on the following year's Championship Tour in emphatic style.
At the 2018 season opening Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, Griffin's first outing on surfing's biggest stage, he blew minds on finals day with a triple-barrel perfect 10 on his way to a third-place finish and The Griffin Show had arrived.
After no shortage of highlight reel moments across his first two years on tour, and with the Cola Bros YouTube channel going from strength to strength behind the scenes, Griffin broke through and finished in the Top 10 for the first time at the end of 2021.
In 2022 he claimed his first big wins at the highest level, taking out the MEO Pro Portugal and Surf City El Salvador Pro to finish the year ranked seventh in the world, knocking on the door of his first-ever Rip Curl WSL Finals appearance.
With the annual world title decider held at Griffin's home break, and no Californian male having won a world title since Tom Curren in 1990, expect bedlam on the beach when, not if, Griffin finally qualifies for surfing's biggest single-day showdown.
