In the world of skateboarding, there's one quality that's prized above all others among the heroes and greats: watchability – that ability to draw gaze in a crowded field. Skateboarding is a very crowded field these days, but Jake Wooten has watchability in spades.
Hailing from Tennessee, Jake has overcome a lot of personal adversity to reach the upper echelons of the skate game. His mother and father struggled with addiction, so he was raised by his aunt and uncle, who encouraged him to try out different hobbies. One of those was skateboarding, which would go on to change his life.
"There's absolutely nothing I want to do besides skating," says Jake in “True Grit,” a film about his life produced by Santa Cruz skateboards. "Skating's what I need to do – it's fun and it makes me happy. If I didn't have something like skateboarding to occupy me, or if I still lived with my parents, then I'd be dead or in jail – there's no doubt about it."
Winner of the 2018 Huntington Beach stop of the Vans Park Series tour, Jake sparks every session, demo or event he enters with an electric fever of intensity, which creates that mesmerizing skate magic. Jake officially went pro with Santa Cruz in early 2021 and released his highly acclaimed “Big Sky” Red Bull Video Part in 2022. He has won several noteworthy competitions including Woodward’s Mano-A-Mano and is the visionary behind Red Bull Terminal Takeover, a signature Red Bull Skate event.
