The word “Kelana” in the ancient Indonesian language Malay meaning “traveler”. Kelana Humphrey is just that. A traveler. An adventurer. A journeyman.
Early Life & Roots
Born in the heavenly tropics of Bali, one would’ve expected Kelana to pick up a surf board far before swinging his leg over a motorcycle. And that’s exactly what happened. But ever the traveler, Kelana uprooted and moved to southern California at the age of 7, where he found a new passion in motocross. His ascension was rapid, quickly rising to the top of the amateur ranks in the southwest before taking his skills national, reaching the world pinnacle of amateur motocross at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch for the Amateur National Motocross Championships at just 11 years old.
Finding Freeride
After spending a few years chasing success on the amateur motocross circuit, Humphrey discovered a new dirt bike avenue that he enjoyed even more: freeride. Touted as one of the youngest up-and-coming free ride athletes in the world at age 12, Kelana has continued to push his boundaries as an all-around dirt bike athlete and one leading the progression of freeride motocross, showcasing his skills as the only Supermini rider at Red Bull Imagination, where he hit arguably the biggest jumps ever done on a minibike.
No Slowing Down
Now rooted amid the wineries of Temecula, Kelana has graduated to riding the big bikes and traded his gas-powered engines for electric as one of the premier freeriders under the Stark Future electric motocross banner. He keeps the ball rolling as a jack-of-all-motocross-trades, equally dividing his time between ramps, tracks, speedways and everything in between, the sky is the limit for Humphrey: Supercross, epic freeride videos. The world is wide open for the man they call “traveler” who still makes his annual pilgrimage to put tires to the shores that raised him. And he still makes time to surf.
