At the age of three, Leon Glatzer surfed his first waves and discovered his passion for the sea and surfing very early on. Today, the sea is his best friend. He plays with the waves and has built up a very special connection to the force of nature, water. Leon himself speaks of a previously unknown and adrenaline-rich energy that he feels when surfing.
In 2010, his mother packed all their belongings into a car, took Leon out of the middle of class, and they moved from the big city of San José to Pavones, Costa Rica, into a house with a 50-meter walk to the ocean. From that day on, the Pacific Ocean became Leon's front yard, and he began to pursue his surfing passion intensely for several hours a day.
At the age of 15, his professional career path began. At the same time, the DOSB acquired him, and he became a part of the German national shortboard team. Although Leon was born and raised in countries other than Germany, both of his parents are German. His relatives live in Kassel and are a regular stop on his many trips around the world. As a result, Leon feels a strong connection to Germany and defines himself as German. For him, home is where the family lives.
One of his biggest goals was to qualify for the biggest sporting competition in the world. In El Salvador, with absolute discipline, after a lot of sweat and some tears, he fulfilled his long-awaited dream: a ticket for the Summer Games as the first German surfer. With this, he made it and can now count himself among the absolute international elite of surfing.
Nevertheless, he always wants to surpass himself and never stands still. To this end, the young surfer continues to train diligently, always taking on new challenges and will certainly mix up the international competition well into the future.
