From the first time he ever climbed aboard a motorcycle, it was almost inevitable that Liam Everts would become one of the hottest young talents in motocross – that's just what happens when your dad is the greatest MXGP racer of all time and your grandad's also a four-time world champ.
Mentored by his father, the record 10-time FIM Motocross World Champion Stefan Everts (himself the son of four-time champion Harry Everts), the youngster from Hasselt has been marked out as potentially the next great Belgian champion ever since he first started racing.
That's a lot of pressure for such a young racer, but following the path of patient, steady progression through the ranks that worked so well for his father, it's clear that Liam has both the talent and mentality for the job – as does his third place in the 2018 European 85cc Championship and brilliant 1–1 ride in the opening round of the 2020 EMX125 series in the UK before injury derailed his title ambitions.
"Sure, my last name brings pressure with it, but once I start racing, I disappear into my bubble and only focus on myself, my bike and the circuit," he explains.
Anyone who sees Liam ride can see the family talent is very obviously there, too. It's clear in his flawless technique on the bike and smart-thinking racecraft despite his tender years.
Liam stepped up to the EMX250 class full time in 2021 and impressed everyone with a series of mature performances. This saw him rewarded with a place in MX2 for the 2022 campaign in which he secured numerous top-ten finishes and ended the championship in 10th place overall.
At the start of his second season at world championship level, Liam signed a new deal with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing for 2024, ending the season in a fighting fourth place overall.
With a new ride for 2025 as part of the factory Husqvarna team, Liam is in prime position to make a run at the coveted MX2 crown.
