It all started for Peter Salzmann back when he was a little boy, jumping onto a mattress and cushions from his parents’ balcony. From there the jumps got bigger and bigger until he eventually took up skydiving and BASE jumping at the age of 20.
Peter’s first BASE jumps were from a 110-metre-high bridge in Croatia and he was soon jumping from a 1,000-metre-high rock face in Italy. He was on a mission to improve his skills and quickly racked up over 500 jumps as he travelled the world.
Then Peter’s focus shifted to wingsuit flying and in recent years he has been playing his part in the rapid evolution of the discipline. Studying weather patterns, aerodynamics and geography all combine when searching for new ‘exits’ and ‘lines’ to fly.
In 2024, Salzmann pushed the boundaries of his sport when he leapt from Switzerland's Jungfrau mountain at a height of 4,063m, equipped with a ground-breaking wingsuit foil. The jump set new world records for the Longest BASE Flight Time of 5m 56s and Longest BASE Flight Distance of 12.5km. The jump's altitude difference of 3,402m (11,161 feet) also established a new record for Biggest BASE Jump from start to landing. You can read the full story here and find out how it was designed here.
Peter is equally talented on both sides of the camera lens, starring in some of wingsuit flying’s most impressive edits as well as filming his friends in the sky.
