Zion Wright has taken the skate world by storm with his style and charisma.
Born in Palm Beach County, Florida, and raised in the town of Jupiter, he first stepped on a skateboard at 4 years old.
One of the most versatile skaters on the planet, Zion is as comfortable grinding massive handrails as he is spinning a 540 in a bowl. He's as watchable at any contest as he is respected for filming cutting-edge video parts.
Zion credits his father for making sacrifices early in his career. At one point, his dad quit his job delivering newspapers so he could drive his son to an important skate contest. “If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Zion says of his dad.
At 16, Zion packed his things and made the move across the country to Los Angeles to be closer to the heart of the skateboard industry.
In 2016, Zion took second at Boardr Am and won PHXAM. “I was just going to go and skate and see how it went. It ended up going really well and after that my skating started to speak for itself.”
Since Zion turned pro for Real Skateboards in November 2017, he's been on a filming rampage, logging full video parts both for Real and in the 2019 banger You Good?
In 2018, Zion wowed the crowds, both in Estonia and around the world, with an impressive second place at his first-ever Simple Session contest.
Zion’s dad has continued to nurture his son’s talents: “He still helps me mentally and physically. It’s been good having him there. It keeps me stable.”
In 2019, Zion was added to the USA Skateboarding Team and had his sights set on competing in Tokyo in 2021.
In 2021, Zion went into the final park skateboarding contest in Tokyo qualification ranked 114th in the world and 16th among Americans. Needing to win the Dew Tour event in Des Moines to have any chance of making the US Team, he delivered a memorable run and went on to represent his country at the Games.
Zion will continue doing big things and blowing minds on his skateboard wherever he goes, but in the meantime, check out his ultimate skating playlist on Spotify.
