After seemingly coming out of nowhere PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has stormed to the top of the Steam charts, easily breaking the two million sales mark and some are reporting that it could be as high as three million. This popularity has seen it become one of the most popular games on Twitch, and the game we always keep going back to whenever we have a spare five minutes.
With a map that spans miles and up to 100 people trying to kill you, finding a good location in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is the key to a good finish. Get some good loot, some good cover and there’s no reason why you can’t hit the top 20 in almost every game and the top 10 in most of them. Once it gets down to the last few then location is less important and it comes down to positioning and combat skills, but until then location is everything.
With a random flight path effectively restricting which areas of the map you can make it to at the start of the game it’s important to have a few possible ideas in mind when you leave the starting island, and there is always a lot to consider. Will other people be there, will there be good loot, will you find a vehicle to help you out if you get some bad circle luck? All of these are valid questions, and often hard to decide on the fly. That’s why we’ve found some of the best drop locations in PUBG for you.
Tunnels/Bunker
This suggestion is always a solid start. Quite a few people tend to go here, but even more will go to the horseshoe shaped area just down the road, so if you see a lot of people jump out with you don’t be put off. It’s in a pretty central location and will often be well within the first circle.
The main reason to head here is because of the loot. With a series of underground tunnels and rooms to clear, you’re all but guaranteed to find a few assault rifles, and even more powerful sniper rifles are very common. Nine times out of ten this area will give you enough loot to gear up a full squad of four and then some. There’s also a chance of a vehicle spawning right outside – it’s just off one of the main roads to the military base should the circle give you a hard time. A fight in the tunnels is not something you will forget quickly.
Mansion
This really is one of the hidden gems of the PUBG map. Not that many people seem to know about it thanks to its remote location, but it really is one of the best spots to aim for if the flight path allows for it. With a couple of massive mansion buildings and a few smaller out houses to rummage through, kitting up a duo will never be a problem and most of the time it will give a full squad enough gear.
The downsides are that vehicles rarely spawn close by and its remote location means that you are probably going to have to walk past a pretty busy area to find any kind of transport. But if the gear gods have been kind you should be able to take on an army within the first five minutes. If you get some insane circle luck then you can totally camp out here for the entire game thanks to the long lines of sight on offer.
Hospital
This is a very popular drop location, and you should always be prepared to fight without a weapon if you land with others, but often the risk is worth the reward. There always seems to be more than enough ARs littered around the halls, and finding scopes is also a common occurrence. While it is very westerly, it’s usually pretty easy to make it to any of the first circles and there’s a garage that has a high Dacia spawn rate just down the hill.
The best time to head here is if it is quite a way off the flight path. If the plane goes straight over it at the start then it’s probably best to give it a miss, but if you think you can just about make it then this is totally worth a shot. If you’re alone, you are perfectly set up for a god like run.
Radio Tower
If you’ve played more than one game of PUBG where the plane flies over the south island then you’ll probably know how many people drop into the military base. But fear not, if you’re fairly sure the circle will end up on that south island, which often happens with low flight paths, the radio tower is the perfect place to drop.
Loot rates aren’t amazing, especially if there are more than two of you, but the high ground is your friend. If you get lucky and get a scope then picking people off will be no issue. Sooner or later someone will try and push into you and providing you have a good aim you should be able to take their stuff. It’s a much slower place to play, and relies on you being able to stay on top of that hill, but if you can and you get lucky it becomes very difficult to beat a duo that make it there.
These two random houses east of Pochinki
Yes, this looks like a terrible idea, but if you’re playing solo hear us out on this, as we’ve won a couple of games from this position. These two houses do not have amazing loot spawns, and there is a chance you will get no ranged weapon at all, but that is rare. Crucially though, what is even rarer is someone dropping on these houses with you. Most will head to town, or the slightly larger compound just south of these two.
No enemies on you means you have time to see where the circle is and move in that direction. You will almost always be in the first circle thanks to the central location, and if not then you can easily walk to it in time. There are also easy escape routes in all directions and, amazingly, there are two vehicle spawns right next to the compound, meaning you’ll be unlucky not to get one. The reason this is so good is because of the options it presents. You can go anywhere, and create any plan easily – and flexibility is key in PUBG.
The rest
As our last point proved, anywhere can be a winning location, so don’t be afraid to experiment. Other locations such as the police station on the edge of Yasnaya or the shooting range can offer great loot spawns, but limited options and a lot of people. Random outcrops of houses dotted all over the map guarantee a safe first five minutes, but poor loot rates could mess you up. If you just want to fight then head to the military base or the school and apartments complex slap bang in the centre of the map. Experimentation is the name of the game, but if you want to snap out of a bad run then you can’t go wrong with one of our suggestions.
