Black Ops II Gets Four More Multiplayer Maps
Call of Duty goes to some unexpected places in the just released Vengeance pack.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II maps are back with a vengeance! No seriously, it says so right there on the box. The newest downloadable map pack for Black Ops II’s multiplayer mode, Vengeance, has just arrived for Xbox Live. It includes four new maps: “Cove,” “Detour,” “Rush,” and “Uplink.”
Of the four, Rush is the standout map. Set in a colorful paintball arena filled with puffy, paint-splattered barriers, it’s one of the most visually striking Call of Duty maps of recent years. Some of it takes place in the designated paintball area, and other action goes into the office and shop of the establishment and an outer area. Elevated walkways on the side help make camping almost impossible because almost every spot is easily flanked.
In Detour, the action plays out atop a damaged suspension bridge, high above an East Coast waterway. This long and narrow map is covered with scattered vehicles, and emergency barricades. There’s a small underside area through the destroyed tarmac, but most of the action takes place directly on the collapsed pavement of the bridge — leading to lots of head-to-head action.
Uplink is a reimagined version of Summit from the original Black Ops. While Summit took place on a snowy mountain with a small interior base in the middle, this one drastically switches climates and heads deep in the rain-soaked jungles of Myanmar, high atop a high-tech mountain facility. To add to the dramatic tension of firefights, the map takes place during a raging thunderstorm.
The stage is set for all-out conflict in Cove, set on a small, forgotten island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Players battle it out amongst the wreckage of a jet that crash-landed during a smuggling operation gone wrong. It’s another visually interesting map because it takes place on a sandy, sun-kissed island that feels almost like the setting for the TV show “Lost.” It’s also a smaller, compact map that is sure to garner a lot of player votes in matches.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II Vengeance is available now on Xbox 360 for 1,200 Microsoft Points, with other platforms to follow at a later date. Here's a look at how the new maps play.
