Blitz Kids Prepare to Unleash Their New Album
The Red Bull Records signings are gearing up for what could be their biggest year yet.

Cheshire's axe-wielding, emo-channeling Britrock outfit Blitz Kids have plans… big plans. Their brand-new (third) album, The Good Youth, is nearly ready to go and set for release on January 20 on Red Bull Records and they've just released a brand-new video for their current single Sometimes. We spoke to guitarist Jono Yates about the band's fast-changing fortunes.
What’s changed most since you formed back in 2006?
We've just got better and better. We strive to push our songwriting with every release. If you don't, then it starts to get stale. If we're not excited about a song, how can we expect other people to be?
You replaced two members of the original line-up in 2012, six years after Blitz Kids formed. Was that a difficult process?
We don't really think about the past to be honest. We're always looking to the future and how we can better ourselves as musicians and people.
Your new track, Sometimes, is a life-affirming tune; is that a theme running through the new album?
We tried the make this one positive, because it's hard to listen to our last album now without diving head first into a pit of depression. The lyrics are so dark and gloomy, and the music itself is all in a minor key. We didn't want the same problem with this one, so we decided to make it really positive.
Do the sashes the models wear in the video express pride in your Cheshire roots?
There's a sash for the three places we were born – and one for Nantwich, which is where we met. So Bournemouth for Joe, Exeter for Matt, and Manchester for me and Nic. We didn't really over think it to that extent, but we're certainly proud of where we've come from. I don't know any other band from Nantwich that has done anything at all.
What would be your dream festival or dream support slot to play?
Biffy Clyro are my favourite band of all time, so to play with them would be a dream come true. Festival-wise, Leeds and Reading is the dream. We've been going since we were kids, so to be given the opportunity to play on that line-up would blow my mind!
