Red Bull Dance Your Style brought us a world final with international participation in Paris in 2019 and a unique challenge on TikTok in 2020. Now, as the 2021 event fast approaches, it's time to take a closer look at the battle format that brings entertainment and showmanship to the forefront of dance competitions. For this, we also do things differently and present song titles that describe the battle.

Living La Vida Loca

At Red Bull Dance Your Style, the DJ spins music from a big pool of mainstream hits, classics and secret surprises from their treasure chest. The result are crazy combinations of dance styles and music that usually don't go together, but challenge the dancers to show their best.

Dilemma

You decide who wins. On the flip side, this also means you're responsible for who's out. More often than not, both dancers are amazing and the need to decide will leave you shaking your head. What a dilemma.

Black or White

Dance Your Style is about inclusion. Everyone is welcome – no matter what skin colour, religion, body size, political orientation or preferred dance style. As everyone focuses on the challenge at hand, everyone shares a common goal, making differences outside of dance irrelevant.

Love is in the Air

In most battles nowadays, you can feel a seriously competitive vibe. The energy in the room is about winning. Dancers try to outsmart their opponent, challenge them with complex and virtuosic routines and also point out mistakes for the judges to see. At Dance Your Style, however, the dancers hype each other and perform together. It feels more like a gathering of like-minded people than a competition.

Let's Talk About Sex

Contrary to popular belief, street dance style can be outrageously sexy, especially when voguing, waacking and dancehall come into play. Often, dancers from other styles pick up the energy and attitude from those styles to add spice to their own performance. Usually, the crowd loves it and goes crazy.

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

According to the dancers, the crowd is much more engaged at Red Bull Dance Your Style and their reaction is immediate and honest. That energises the dancers and makes them push even harder, creating an upward spiral of awesomeness.

Don't Stop Till You Get Enough

When the battle is over and the champion is crowned, the party isn't over. The whole Dance Your Style event already feels like a party, so the transition to the after-party is fluent and it feels like a natural extension.

Take My Breath Away

Even if Dance Your Style feels like a big party, people want to win. As there's no expert jury, but hundreds of individuals making the decision, dancers can't rely on technical finesse and skills alone to take home the title. They need to wow the audience and make a connection. When the audience feels their joy and energy, they'll emerge victorious.

Me Against The Music

The number one challenge for the competitors is definitely the music selection, which is different to what they're used to dancing to. The key is in not fighting the music and enforcing your own primary style, but in going with the flow and letting loose in the moment.

Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)

Everybody Dance Now is not the official title of C&C Music Factory's hit, but a lot of people think it is, which is why it could serve as the Red Bull Dance Your Style anthem. In no other battle format does the audience dance and vibe as much with the competitors as here. When you see the whole crowd shaking and bouncing, it's hard to not join them.
