There's only space in your FIFA 19 team for one goalkeeper, so you need to make sure you've got a good one on the books. If you don’t have €70,000,000 to sign your own Alisson, we've put together a list of 10 bargain 'keepers for your Career Mode squad.
While goalkeepers don't tend to hit their prime until later than outfielders – and can often go on playing for longer – we've tried to avoid picking out players over the age of 30.
All prices quoted are those we've managed to settle on in genuine in-game negotiations. It's not an exact science, though, so if you sit down with a player's manager and they’re driving a hard bargain, you can often get them to agree to lower fees if you throw in a sell-on clause.
We've also tried to avoid players already on huge weekly salaries. If you're looking for a bargain, chances are you're not going to have a fortune to spend on wages either.
Benjamin Lecomte (Montpellier)
Spending €18,000,000 on a goalkeeper might not seem like much of a bargain, but in the long run signing Benjamin Lecomte from Montpellier will look like a very smart bit of business indeed. At 27-years-old he's developed enough to command a first team spot in plenty of sides, with 82 for reflexes and 81 for both positioning and diving.
It also means there's still room for improvement, though. Lecomte's strength isn’t the best, so he's prone to punching rather than catching it, but his overall rating can go from 81 to 84 with the right training.
Andrea Consigli (Sassuolo)
Pretty much the very definition of an all-rounder, Sassuolo's 82-rated Andrea Consigli has 83 for reflexes and handling, and 82 for positioning and diving. That's a remarkably rounded set of stats, which means his only real weak point is the fact that he's already 31, so you might not get as many seasons out of him as others on this list.
It's hard to find a goalkeeper of this quality for the €17,000,000 he'll set you back, so if you don't have time to work on a younger player and need someone to slot in straight away, the Italian is a very decent bet.
Thomas Strakosha (Lazio)
Young goalkeepers with good potential would usually set you back a lot more than the €16,000,000 that Lazio will want for Thomas Strakosha, but the 23-year-old is only under contract until summer 2019, meaning the Italian side will accept a lower offer than usual.
The 81-rated Albanian already has 86 for reflexes and 81 for diving, making him a good shot-stopper, while 78 for positioning, 77 for handling, and 75 for kicking mean his other stats aren't far behind. With the potential to go on and reach 86 overall, Strakosha's only going to get better.
Péter Gulácsi (RB Leipzig)
RB Leipzig were a second-division team when they signed Péter Gulácsi from sister club Red Bull Salzburg, but the Hungarian has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga. He can be a bit cautious with crosses, so you might want to make sure he's got some solid centre-backs in front of him, but with 83 for reflexes, 82 for diving, and 81 for handling, he's no pushover when it comes to facing shots.
RB Leipzig will want €14,000,000 for Gulácsi, and while he won't improve on his overall rating of 81, at 28-years-old he's still got plenty of seasons at the top level ahead of him yet.
Matheus (Braga)
Brazil has an embarrassment of options when it comes to goalkeepers at the moment, and if it wasn’t for Liverpool's Alisson and Ederson at Manchester City, Braga's Matheus would surely be in with a shot at the number one shirt.
The 25-year-old is keen to come off his line, so you'll want to play with an aggressive defence rather than one that sits back, but with 80 for reflexes and diving, 77 for positioning, and 73 for handling, he's handy when he's on it as well. Matheus is rated 78 overall at the moment, but with the potential to increase it by four points, an offer of around €12,000,000 should secure you a goalkeeper for the long term.
Marko Dmitrović (Eibar)
Tiny Eibar's continued stay in La Liga is nothing short of miraculous, but it could easily have ended by now without a keeper as strong as 79-rated Marko Dmitrović. A rating of 81 for positioning makes it the Serbian international's biggest strength, but with 79 for reflexes and handling, 78 for kicking, and 74 for diving he's certainly well-rounded. 79 for strength means he can hold his own in aerial duels against burly opposition players, but he's also prone to punching the ball. Around €11,000,000 should be enough to convince Eibar to let the 26-year-old leave.
Alexander Schwolow (SC Freiburg)
Performing well for a struggling team is a good way to get noticed as a goalkeeper, and Freiburg's Alexander Schwolow has certainly done that over the past season and a half.
A product of the club's academy, Schwolow's ratings of 80 for reflexes, and 78 for diving mean he's capable of pulling off some big saves, and while he's not the most commanding with crosses, 76 for handling should help him hold on to the ones he does come for. An overall rating of 78 means the 26-year-old should be suited to a mid-table top-division team, and with an asking price of €10,000,000, he's not too pricey either.
Ciprian Tătăruşanu (Nantes)
At 32, Ciprian Tătăruşanu is a little older than the other players on this list, but with an overall rating of 80 and an asking price of just €9,000,000, the former Fiorentina number one is a good buy if you're not thinking too long term. He doesn't come with the huge wages associated with big-name 'keepers at the end of their careers, either.
Tătăruşanu's low price is thanks to an expiring contract, but it gets you a player with 83 for reflexes, 81 for diving, 79 for positioning, and 77 for handling – stats you'd have to pay much more for if he was younger. Make the most of him before he retires.
Álex Remiro (Athletic Club)
Another one whose contract is running down, Athletic Club's Álex Remiro is only 23, but is already rated 77 overall, with 83 for diving his standout goalkeeping stat. The rest aren't far behind, and he’s also got the long throw trait, so can be handy on the counter attack. Like Strakosha above, the fact that he's young and still improving would normally add a few million to his asking price, but rather than risk losing him for free in the summer, Athletic will accept around €8,000,000 for the promising young stopper.
Yassine Bounou (Girona)
If money's a bit tight, but you need reinforcements between the sticks, you could do a lot worse than Girona's Yassine 'Bono' Bounou. The former Atlético Madrid man and current Moroccan international has a solid set of stats in the mid-to-high 70s, with 79 for handling and 77 for positioning being the best. The rest aren't far behind, though. The 27-year-old also still has a little room for improvement, so for the €7,000,000 Girona will want for him, you could soon find yourself with an 80-rated 'keeper in your team. Bargain.
