G2 Esports have finally kicked-off their campaign at the League of Legends World Championship and they did it with an impressive win over Griffin.
Marcin 'Jankos' Jankowski, who urged fans not to think of them as the favourites going into the tournament, feels more confident now that they've managed to take down a Korean team on stage. But while the 24-year-old respects the Asian teams in the tournament, he reveals why he still wants to face SKT – the best performing team in the tournament so far.
How does it feel to get over the mental block against Korean teams from scrims?
There was no mental block against Korean teams – unless we play against Damwon – but for some reason they don't look as strong on stage in my eyes. I'm really happy we beat Griffin, but looking at SKT, they're such a different team, so I don't know how we'd match up against them.

Did you expect Team Liquid to beat Damwon?
I personally didn't think Liquid would beat Damwon, but it seems like Team Liquid is actually playing really well as a team. It feels like they're also all stepping up individually. No one is really losing lanes and they're performing really well. If they can keep it up, I feel like they could make it out of groups. But I also don't want to give them that much praise, I'm just saying they're not bad.
You love SKT and Faker, so what do you make of their performances so far?
I really want to play against SKT, but if we play against them right now I think I'd be really stressed out, because they're performing really well on stage. I feel like we can do better if we meet them in the quarters, semis, or the final. I'll be ready and I can't wait to play against Faker and Clid if we get the chance.
They didn't flex pick during MSI, as they're doing right now, and we definitely didn't expect them to flex that Kayle pick that went into the bot lane, so I think that their draft has been insane. They're a really strong team and so far they’re looking like the best performing team in the tournament.
Even though they're playing well, they still look beatable, though. I wouldn’t mind a G2 vs SKT final, but at the same time there are so many other teams who are really good, so I can’t say that I want to face them in the final and that'll happen.

Do you feel confident about making it out of groups?
I think it's safe to say we should make it out of groups, but I’m not going to say so 100 percent, because we still don't know how good HKA and Cloud9 are. C9 always perform well under pressure and always get out of groups. I think I'm confident enough to say we’d be the first seed in our group, but at the same time I'm also humble enough to say we might not even make it out of groups.
What do you make of Fnatic's Garen and Yuumi draft?
I think the Garen and Yuumi draft is still good and it works for Fnatic. The way SKT played against them was really unique, so it makes sense that Fnatic were caught off guard. I feel like people should still respect the Garen Yuumi draft.
