Sultan Of The Disco - Tang Tang Ball
The South Korean band show us why they're tipped for the top with an exclusive performance.
Sultan Of The Disco's musical references aren't exactly a secret. This is a band proudly in thrall to the sort of glitter-caked, shape-throwing soul, funk and disco that Chic, Kool And The Gang and The Jacksons ruled the airwaves with in the '70s. But listing the band's inspirations doesn't tell the whole story. Nothing – and we mean nothing – will prepare you for the Korean five-piece's joyful, grin-inducing live performances, which pitch up somewhere between Junior Senior's starbright disco-pop and Psy's Gangnam Style.
The band have been honing their bonkers style since the turn of the decade, with Nahzam Sue (vocals/synths/dancing), Ganji Kim (drums), G (bass) and Hong-ki (guitar/vocals) providing the music for their 2013 debut album The Golden Age. But the role played by dancer (and backing vocalist) J.J Hassan is just as important. Working his booty to maximum effect, Hassan's enthusiasm is infectious. And together, their live shows have blown the roofs off tents at Glastonbury, Summer Sonic and The Great Escape. So get ready for a high-energy live performance, complete with kimono dressing gowns and sweatbands, and hit play on the video above.
