A recent posting on Riot’s career page put a call out for mobile developers to "join a SWAT team of mobile developers and designers on a mission to help players engage with the world around League of Legends anytime and anywhere, even if they’re not sitting in front of a computer." The question is, is this the long-rumored two-step authenticator or an official LoL app?
There’s no word yet, but in the meantime, there’s plenty of League-related apps already out there. Trouble is, how to do you make an app appealing in competitive gaming when it can’t be utilized during match-play? Easy, you emphasize and build out from where it can be most beneficial - practice. Here’s a look at some of the best on the app marketplace:
Developer: nhelix Inc.
Available on: iPhone/iPad/Android
Price: Free
It doesn’t matter if it’s an FPS or a MOBA, the reliability and importance of timers cannot be understated. Any competitive title requires multitasking to various degrees, and that’s why some of the more meticulous aspects fall upon coaches.
The app is among the most bare-bones of the ones we reviewed, but that’s because the developers realized there’s no need to complicate the task at hand. The importance of this cornerstone is self-explanatory, so piggybacking LoL Timer onto another app like LegendSmith could possibly jeopardize its stability. Why risk it?
Final Word: We ran LoL Timer for hours and never experienced one hiccup or crash. As far as free space on your phone goes, you could do worse.
LegendSmith

Developer: Lifeform Entertainment
Price: Free
Available on: iPhone/iPad
If you’re looking for something outside the client template that LoL Connect delivers upon, LegendSmith is a good place to start. It allows you to compare builds, view top user rankings for champions, allies, and items. The additional ability to save mastery and rune templates rounds out the app nicely.
While the content is there, LegendSmith’s design suffers due to clutter, which is why you might want to take some time to familiarize yourself with the layout before you dive into ranked with it at your side.
Final Word: Being that it’s available for free, we still can’t help but recommend it.
LoL Connect

Developer: Red Panda Apps
Price: Free, upgrade to Pro for $1.99
Available on: iPhone/iPad
With 12 available options and topics and subjects ranging from signing into the LoL client itself to see which friends are online and to chat with them, to the latest release notes, and in-game stats, LoL Connect has it all. Unfortunately, the build feature remains locked unless you purchase the pro version for $1.99 USD.
The timer feature is slightly more polished than LoL Timer, and the interface itself makes for a seamless experience overall. What really sets LoL Connect apart is the “game assist” feature, which syncs with your current match in real-time to offer overall team stats, a timer separate from the one offered at the home screen, and a build-as-you-go feature set to roll out soon.
Final Word: If you only have enough memory for one League of Legends app, this is the one to go with.
