Gaming
Ludwig Ahgren’s influence on the gaming industry cannot be understated. How did he grow from a small-time gamer to one of the biggest names in streaming? He gives it his all with every stream, no matter the size of the audience.
“You should stream to one viewer as you would to 10,000,” he says.
Beyond the numbers — he has more than 6 million followers on YouTube alone — Ludwig's top career moments are marked by his deep influence in the industry. He’s redefined how streamers engage with their audiences, blending live interaction with pre-planned content that resonates far beyond live streams. Ludwig continues to push the boundaries of content creation and entrepreneurship. Let’s dive into some of the biggest moments in Ludwig Ahgren's gaming career, from Twitch records to his impact on the gaming community.
Ludwig Ahgren's early career
Before becoming a streaming star, Ludwig was a small content creator with a big passion for gaming. Ludwig graduated from Arizona State University in 2017, majoring in English literature and journalism. When not gaming or studying, Ludwig spent his free time as an undergraduate performing standup and improv comedy with local comedy troupe Tempe Underground.
His comedic training would come in handy when he ventured into streaming. He first began to gain recognition as a part-time Twitch live streamer, with Super Smash Bros. as his initial game of choice. His humorous internet personality won over viewers as he showcased his gaming skills with Super Smash Bros. Melee and Mario Party 2 streams.
In 2019, he pivoted his career to full-time streaming. Later that year, he secured a world record while streaming Domination, a Mario Party 4 button-mashing mini-game. His success didn’t stop there, as he continued branching into other gaming franchise competitions. He placed in competitions ranging from the Pokémon Sword and Shield tournament to PogChamps.
In 2020, Ludwig organized the Ludwig Ahgren Championship Series 3, raising more than $260,000 for Games for Love, a non-profit for children undergoing medical treatment. These foundational years set the stage for what would turn out to be one of the most iconic Ludwig moments in Twitch history.
Breaking the Twitch subscriber record
March 2021 marked Ludwig’s most famous career highlight — his Twitch subathon. Subathon, which stands for “subscription marathon,” allows gamers to earn additional stream time for every new subscriber they get. What began as a small 24- to 48-hour event spiraled into an internet phenomenon, lasting a total of 31 days.
His non-stop stream captured everything from gaming sessions to mundane activities like sleeping, allowing viewers to see every aspect of his life. The month-long subathon culminated in breaking the all-time Twitch subscriber record. Ludwig surpassed Tyler "Ninja" Blevins’ record of 269,154 subscribers when his subathon peaked at adding 283,066 subscribers to his already-impressive count.
The event solidified his name in streaming history. By the end of 2021, he amassed 3.1 million followers on Twitch.
Key collaborations and partnerships
From the beginning of his career, Ludwig was one of the few streamers who carefully planned his live streams.
Over the years, Ludwig has collaborated with numerous streamers, growing his public recognition and his own love for gaming. This approach helped build a loyal audience and attract notable collaborators, such as fellow Smash Bros. streamer Slime. In a interview, Slime recalls Ludwig’s undeniable charisma.
“He has this inhuman energy to nail takes and make the whole crew laugh for eight hours straight, or us, or anyone watching,” says Slime. “It truly is the one thing I admire about him the most.”
Ludwig has also collaborated with Twitch streamer Jerma. During Ludwig’s Twitch days, their first huge collaboration was a Battleship stream, which led to their now famous Sims Stream in 2021, known as the Dollhouse Streams. They each played several characters, with Ludwig’s standout moment happening while playing as fan favorite Emilia.
Ludwig’s most notable — and personal — collaboration, however, is with his girlfriend QTCinderella. Since 2020, the couple has won the adoration of streaming fans through co-hosting live events and appearing in one another’s streams.
In November 2021, Ludwig made headlines when he decided to leave Twitch and move to YouTube Gaming. Although he was switching platforms, Ludwig did not need to build things from the ground up: he already had 2.09 million subscribers on YouTube who were happy to follow him. His initial 2.09 million subscriber count has risen to over 6 million subscribers.
In December 2024, he announced that his YouTube contract had officially ended. Since then, he has returned to streaming on Twitch.
Memorable charity streams and philanthropy
Ludwig's ability to mobilize his community for good has been one of the hallmarks of his career, One of his most notable charity events occurred near the end of his famous subathon, when he pledged to donate $5 for every new subscription he got. Funds from the $365,000 he raised went to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Animal Humane Society.
In January 2022, Ludwig used his power to reach thousands of people across the globe to host a live-streamed charity auction for No Kid Hungry. The auction raised $100,000 by auctioning off hot items, such as his first-ever YouTube Silver Play button and the chance for a fan to spend an hour with the streamer. The auction items sold for $32,000 and $12,000 respectively.
Ludwig was also the force behind Fast50, a charity gaming speedrun that took place in summer 2024. The 50-hour streaming marathon raised more than $250,000 for No Kid Hungry and Wings for Life. The $125,000 donated to No Kid Hungry was worth 1.25 million meals.
Unique content and innovations
Ludwig keeps millions of followers engaged through new and exciting streams. A prime example is his creation of Mogul Money, a one-season Jeopardy-inspired game show that blended trivia and humor. It quickly became a fan favorite.
In addition to his game show adventure, he’s the creator of Mogul Moves, his entertainment company. Mogul Moves covered his YouTube streaming deal, The Yard podcast, his merchandise, and yes, even his own line of branded bidets, called Swipe. The company also launched The Mogul Chessboxing Championship in 2022. This exciting event features streamers in an alternating competition of, as you might’ve guessed, games of chess followed by rounds of boxing.
The sheer breadth of his initiatives shows Ludwig’s willingness to experiment.
“I’d rather put my time and energy into what might be a blockbuster. I’d rather take a gamble,” he says.
He created Truffle in 2022 so streamers can create something cool of their own. It’s an extension that allows fans to interact with creators and build a community on YouTube. In 2023, Ludwig signed on as co-owner of Moist Esports, which manages teams competing in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Brawlhalla, Valorant, and Apex Legends, to name just a few.
Ludwig even brought online streamers together for a real-life track and field competition, Streamer Games. The August 2024 games consisted of 13 different events, and Ludwig was part of Team Red Bull, which won first place. The event was awarded Best Streamed Event at the 2024 Streamer Awards.
Awards and recognitions
Ludwig's achievements timeline and contributions to the streaming world haven’t gone unnoticed. He was crowned both the Pokémon Sword and Shield invitational tournament champion and Americas Cardroom's invitation-only competition’s “King of Twitch Poker,” both in 2020.
Over the years, he's been recognized for his engaging streaming events with multiple awards, including Streamer of the Year at the 2021 Streamer Awards and Best Streamed Event at the 2023 Streamy Awards for his Creator Dodgeball World Championship. As of 2024, Ludwig's recognition in the streaming world has earned him a net worth of $14 million.
