Taking the Monday out of Mondays with MX Mondays race recaps presented by Red Bull Motorsports. Keep it dialed with MX Mondays for results and closer-than-close exclusive race photography with @redbullmotorsports on Instagram and @redbullmotospy on Twitter. Peep below race-day photos (via Garth Milan) below and witness how Round 5 of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross really unfolded.
Heat, humidity and the fight to stay mentally strong were the main takeaways from Florida’s gnarly external conditional setup for Round 5. The track was pristine, not a drop of rain in sight, and the soil was familiar for the Florida racers. Marvin Musquin was the rider who put in massive work on Saturday though with Ken Roczen dropping in overall points to Eli Tomac. The top 3 for the 450 class is developing and it’s still being defined. Anything can happen but as it stands after Round 5, this is what we’re looking at for point leaders:
  1. Eli Tomac — 215 Points
  2. Ken Roczen — 209 Points
  3. Marvin Musquin — 184 Points
Going from fifth to third, Musquin’s win in Florida jump-started his Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Standings. Races are moving east and the riders knew they’d be getting closer to Baker’s and closer to familiar conditions, soil and humidity, but it was the heat on Saturday that became an additional obstacle mixed in with the elite level of riding. Riding and racing in Florida heat are different animals. Heat stroke was mentioned, exhaustion was visible and it was rough for everyone, but riders got through it. Musquin got his win in Lucas Oil Pro Motocross in Round 5.
Before signing off, a debut and congratulations are in order for Pierce Brown (pictured below) No. 233 as he lined up for his first pro race on Saturday. A return of a former rule allowing amateur riders to line up for a limited number of pro races while maintaining their amateur status makes this possible, just in case you were wondering if this was a “new rule” or former rule being restored. The young and ruthless Brown is the Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull KTM prospect we’ve been tracking and we’re stoked to see his career progression unfold.
