Thousands of regional Mexican music fans came together at Plaza Garibaldi in Chicago on July 26, 2026, for the second edition of Red Bull Banda Choque, a unique competition celebrating the creativity, culture and competitive spirit of Norteño music. After an afternoon filled with high-energy performances, audience participation and musical showdowns, California artist Neto Becerra emerged victorious as the 2026 Red Bull Banda Choque Champion.
The event continued Red Bull Banda Choque's mission of spotlighting the next generation of regional Mexican talent while honoring Chicago's important role in the genre's growth and evolution.

Hosted by Chicago emcee Luis Sanchez, the competition brought together emerging regional Mexican artists from both the Midwest and California. We brought Chicago the party, the singing, the dancing, and I’m proud of my team and all the people behind it and work that went into this.
Throughout the competition, Becerra impressed both judges and fans with standout performances that demonstrated musical versatility, cultural authenticity and strong stage presence.
Following themed challenges and crowd-favorite moments including the event's signature Zapateo round, Becerra was crowned champion, earning regional bragging rights and joining the growing legacy of Red Bull Banda Choque winners.
“We like playing this music because it’s what we grew up with, and now we’re bringing it to the new generations to make sure they like it just as much. It was an honor and a pleasure to be here in Chicago and represent the music culture of LA and all the Chicanos out here,” said Ernesto Garcia, frontman of the 2026 Banda Choque-winning group, Neto Becerra.
