Can cliff divers hold their nerve in the Azores?
This year’s Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series contenders need to step it up for the season’s only ‘off-the-cliff’ event in Portugal this weekend.
All eyes will be on the UK’s record-breaking cliff diving specialist Gary Hunt in Portugal this weekend. He opened this year’s Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series season in the Republic Of Ireland with yet another victory last month and now he’ll be out to make it a hat-trick of wins in the Azores archipelago, having won both of the past events there.
Rhiannan Iffland of Australia will be the one to beat over in the women’s category. She’s the reigning champion and has already taken an early lead in this year’s World Series after winning Stop 1 in Ireland.
The reigning champions might have set the pace for the 2017 season, but don’t bet against the challengers proving their skills and scoring a few surprises. All this means you won’t want to miss the action from Stop 2 of this year’s Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series – you can watch live coverage right here and on Red Bull TV!
America’s Andy Jones, who’s finished third and second in previous seasons, might have a say in the Hunt’s quest to score a third championship in a row. Then there’s another Brit, Blake Aldridge, who’ll be feeling confident after securing second place on the podium in the season opener.
The big challenger in the women’s field will be Ginger Huber of the USA. She finished joint-second in stop 1, has two Portuguese podiums to her name, and last year she became the first woman to receive a perfect 10 from the judges at this venue.
Don’t you dare miss it!
You can watch live coverage of Stop 2 of Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2017 on July 9 from 12.30pm local time (UTC) on redbullcliffdiving.com, Red Bull TV and Facebook. Red Bull TV is available on connected TVs, gaming consoles, mobile devices, and more.
