Meet Red Bull KTM's 2016 AMA Powerhouse Squad
The most powerful team in the AMA paddock returns as a 450-only effort for 2016.
The Red Bull KTM team saw some changes over the offseason, most notably the conclusion of their 250 program, which means 250 rider Justin Hill will no longer be pitting with the rest of the team (he’s now with Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Red Bull/KTM).
Here’s a look at each of the riders:
Ryan Dungey
The most successful and accomplished member of the team is back for 2016, and will remain there at least through 2017. Dungey is coming off one of the greatest years of his career, too. Just how good was his performance in 2015?
Not only did Dungey win both major 450 titles — AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross — he did so in dominating fashion, collecting 937 of a possible 1025 combined points. That’s 91.41 percent! After wrapping up the outdoor motocross title in Utah, Dungey said his goal is to back up his double-dominance by doing it again in 2016. And with mind-blowing numbers to his credit in 2015, it’s hard to think he won’t do it again.
Dean Wilson
Dean Wilson is probably one of the fastest and most talented riders who hasn’t gotten to really show the world his amazing two-wheeled gifts. Thanks to a steady stream of injuries, the Scottish rider has spent ample time on the sidelines over the last several years. When he has been able to stay healthy, he’s achieved some pretty amazing things. He was the 2011 250 national champion, and he nearly won the 250SX West title in 2012. Those aren’t things you just luck into, and if Wilson stays injury-free in 2016 we could see him getting in the mix for premier class wins.
Marvin Musquin
He’ll be moving up to a 450 in 2016, so expect him to encounter a steep learning curve when he rolls out to battle the big boys. Don’t expect it to get the better of him though. Musquin’s a fierce competitor who will be challenging for podiums, and possibly even wins, at some point in 2016. And like Dungey, he also trains under the legendary Aldon Baker, so you know his fitness won’t be in question.
