World premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, Oliver Stone’s Snowden is about a young man who has, without doubt, changed the world’s history.
What's important to realise is Edward Snowden isn’t a robot. Behind the person who exposed that the United States National Security Agency (and other global governments) were spying on millions of people, is a human soul. Simultaneously, Stone’s film also shows us exactly what went down before and after Snowden revealed his findings.
“The United States government has a lot to answer for,” Stone said. “But we don’t look at ourselves, we don’t study ourselves. I’m going against the grain all the time, so I am asking the people to think about what we did, as opposed to pointing the finger at the terrorist.”
Ultimately, by showing the audience both sides, Stone reveal’s Snowden’s motive is his conscience.
Find out for yourself and head out to your closest movie theatre, as Snowden is in showing now, but in the meantime watch the interview with Stone in the player above and the official trailer below.
