NORTH SHORE, Oahu — When master lensman Ryan Moss approached us last week about a North Shore swell he was in the midst of shooting, we weren't our usual enthusiastic selves. After all, the Volcom Pipe Pro window was due to open and the last thing we needed was more Pipeline footage, right? Well, wrong. When Moss insisted we check out a couple of preview clips of guys like Jamie O'Brien, Kalani Chapman, Nathan Florence and more of Hawaii's hardest charging hellmen in full cry, we were sold on the spot and demanded a hard-drive full of his finest frames immediately.
The clip you see up top is the result of Moss's incredible skill when swimming at the world's most feared wave. Given Moss's previously suggestion had turned out so successfully we didn't dare question him when he suggested the talented Shane Grace might be holding the photos we needed to round out this project, and Grace more than backed up his buddy's word when filing the photos above.
The Volcom Pipe Pro is upon us, and if the warm-up is anything to go by, the main event is going to be a wild old ride. Buckle up folks, we hope you enjoy the show.
Watch the 2018 Volcom Pipe Pro live on Red Bull TV from Jan. 29 to Feb. 10.
