Skrillex, Diplo and Bieber Fans Help on New Video
Skrillex and Diplo fans help on the video for "Where Are Ü Now?" ft. Justin Bieber.
Now there's a video. Of course. Like all of Skrillex's videos, he's not in it. Diplo isn't either. But the Biebs is. The video combines images of Bieber with fan-created illustrations.
Over three days at the end of May, Skrillex and Diplo invited anyone and everyone to Seventh Letter Gallery in Los Angeles, where Bieber-adorned frames of the video hung on the walls. Fans were invited to draw on the video stills, which were then reassembled to form the video. Watch it below.
Jack Ü - "Where Are Ü Now?" ft. Justin Bieber
“We are being overwhelmed, in a good way, by the success of 'Where Are Ü Now' with Justin Bieber, so with the video we wanted to just take it back to the beginning of the record & essentially create an ode to our fans," wrote Jack Ü on their YouTube page. "Doing what we do, it’s entirely all about the fans. We walk a fine line by being 'famous' and in the public eye but we are only here because of you, the fans."
According to one of the fan-artists, there were more than 24,000 video stills in all. Fans were given paint pens to draw with, and several working artists were invited to contribute. Take a look at the gallery action below.
"Justin wrote this record during a tough time in his life and it comes to us that sometimes, as artists, we are also just objects and we have to take that as much as we have to use that to create," Jack Ü explained. "We all do this for you, respect that you put us here and it’s Ü that made the video.”
Things don't slow down for Jack Ü after this. They'll head out on an ambitious train tour of Canada with Zeds Dead, A$AP Ferg, Tycho, Kiesza, Hundred Waters, Anna Lunoe and Mija. Called "Full Flex Express," the tour from July 8-19 is an homage to the Festival Express, a 1970 tour from Montreal to Vancouver that featured Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, the Band, Buddy Guy and more.
