Tampa Pro 2018 recap
A clean sweep on the podium with Eaton, Gustavo and Decenzo holding down slots 1, 2 and 3!
Jagger Eatoncontinued his rich run of contest form with his second big win in just over a month. Last weekend at a stacked, packed Skatepark of Tampa, Eaton took top honors in an event celebrating its 25th year in crowning the year's top dog in the competitive pro game.
Coming in hot from his Simple Session win in Estonia in early February, Jagger was bounced in with the big boys of the international skate scene for his first Tampa Pro, a weekend enshrined in the lore of skateboarding culture since its inception in 1995.
Part of a weekend, which includes the now-legendary moat race, a phenomenal opening-night concrete jam and all the Ybor City hi- jinks you can shake a stick at, Tampa Pro remains the best-regarded and attended event within the skateboarding industry. It's also a great showcase for talents on the come-up, because all the decision-makers and tastemakers pass through at some point.
Joining Jagger in second place was Brazilian Felipe Gustavo with the third place spot held down by Canada’s Ryan Decenzo, but honorable mentions must surely go to fourth placed TJ Rogers, SPOT alumni Zion Wright who charged it on all terrains all weekend long, Alex Midler, Sewa Kroetkov, Best Trick winner and current SOTY Jamie Foy, as well as previous winner Torey Pudwillwho’s crooked grind nollie flip to boardslide remains one of the wildest things the weekend produced.
Eaton joins a gilded march of less than 20 luminaries to be able to call themselves Tampa Pro winners, and with time resolutely on his side a new chapter beckons both for him and the world of professional skateboarding which he is only just beginning to upset.
Big thanks and appreciation as ever to Revered Brian Schaefer, Paul Zitzer and all the SPOT crew for everything they do during and in the run-up to this cornerstone weekend. We love ya!
