'The Other Guys' w/ Kai Lenny, Noa Deane, Arto Saari and Dave Wassel
"The Other Guys" live from the Volcom Pipe Pro.
NORTH SHORE, Oahu — Is there anything Kai Lenny can't do? We've yet to find a concrete answer to that query, though our research so far indicates that if there is an activity he's not mastered, a world title he isn't in the running for, it is most definitely something that occurs on land. Aquaman Lenny, Wikipedia's "celebrity watersports enthusiast,"joined "The Other Guys" today and broke down what's in the water at Maui as well as why Shipstern's Bluff might be the world's best air wave.
Noa Deane, the face of freesurfing in 2018, sat down with us before his Volcom Pipe Pro heat (?) where he's drawn a certain back-to-back world champion. He explains his latest competitive streak and how it has something to do with staying in Gerry Lopez's old quarters on the North Shore.
Arto Saari, pro skateboarder, photographer and the finest Finnish export of all time dropped by to explain how he found himself a Hawaii resident, and how that has everything to do with surfing. Well, plenty to do with surfing. Skateboarding still sits atop his priority list, though he does make a great case for why we should all just get along.
Finally, Dave Wassel-hoff took some time off from his A-team in the booth to give us an update on Dusty Payne's recovery, the reasons Payne is alive today, and the steps you can take to increase surfer safety and support a good cause with the North Shore Lifeguard Association. All that and more in what was just another day in paradise with "The Other Guys."
Up top, we've compiled the day's greatest hits into our "Best From the Beach" segment — press play and saddle up to talk story with "The Other Guys" and friends, then come back for more live conversation from Pipe as soon as the comp is back on.
No play-by-play, no sponsor plugs, no post-heat interviews ... nothing of the sort. "The Other Guys" are just, well, talking about everything else. Chris Binns, esteemed surf journo from Australia, is joined by Travis Ferré, founder and editor-in-chief of What Youth, in this pirate radio broadcast streaming live from Hawaii. Tune in next time and settle into a seat on the North Shore with "The Other Guys" and some of surfing's finest, going live at 10 a.m. Hawaii time every day the Volcom Pipe Pro runs.
