The most popular genre of game right now is multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS) or games where the player plays through the eyes of their soldier, agent, etc. Two of the most well known are Call of Duty and Valorant.
While these types of games may not be the most respectful to participate in (anyone with an open mic can tell you that), there is no lack of information on how to get better. What’s unique about this genre is in games like Valorant, there are even people who are highly-ranked and/or very knowledgeable about the game who offer to coach other players and help them improve. Red Bull gamer Tiffanie “Tiffae” Hsu does this with her viewers, and there are several more who do.

There are also simulation role-playing games (RPGs), which are games where the player plays as a character who interacts with a narrative and story-based world. Two of the most well known are the Fallout series or Stardew Valley.

There are also sandbox games, which are the “world is your oyster” games. You play in a huge open-world environment and get to decide how you interact with said environment. Two of the most popular sandbox games are Minecraft and Terraria.
