Defending champion Steve McCann pulled out a no-handed double front-flip leading into a double tail whip on a spectacular final run of the GoPro BMX Big Air competition to claim first place.
The 92.33-point closing run helped the Australian edge Zack Warden and Kevin Robinson, who earned a 92 and 91, respectively.
“It seems to be a little déjà vu of last year,” said McCann, who claimed the 2011 gold on the final run. “I don’t know how it works like that.
“I was sitting in third, and I was like, ‘What are we here for? Are we here for a good time?’ And I made things happened and it seemed to work out."
It was a disappointing end to the competition for Anthony Napolitan who crashed out of the BMX freestyle event.
Fortunately, after losing the pedals, he suffered only a minor concussion.
Scotty Cranmer won the BMX Park contest on Saturday, with Ryan Nyquist securing silver, and 18-year-old Pat Casey the bronze.
In BMX Vert, 86 points were enough to secure a sixth consecutive gold in the event for Brit Jamie Bestwick, equalling the X Games six-peat record.
