At his Beyond the Sound performance, Nasty C shared some of his experiences that have helped shape him as an artist. Speaking of desire to become a musician he explains that his father had encouraged him to do music as a hobby rather than a full-time career, however due to his passion for music, he decided to follow his own path. "He told me this music thing should only be a hobby because he’d seen so many artists not even make it to the top but just fail or get distracted or whatever. So he obviously was against it. I stuck to what I wanted to do. I was prepared for the consequences or whatever comes with it. I was going to face it. But I made the decision myself."
Nasty C says that he has grown a lot from traveling thanks to the new cultures and different ways of doing things that it presents. "Travelling definitely adds a lot to my creativity. I see and experience different things when I’m outside the country. People live different, people go by different rules, people have different cultures. It’s always interesting to find out what people from all the way across the world think about your music and your culture and how they express themselves in their culture. I think it’s a good thing. It makes me smarter. Especially when it comes to my music, because music is a universal language, but we don’t all speak it the same way. So when I go to like Germany or something like that, I learn a lot about how they feel about hip hop, how they feel about my music, what their vibe is, I take that in and I grow myself with it. That’s what I like about traveling the most."
When it comes to failure, Nasty C believes that it is only a temporary set back and a lesson to be learned from. "You can fail a thousand times. Sometimes it takes ten thousand times to get something right. That’s how people get good at what they do. They practice. You’re not gonna win all the time, you’re not gonna succeed all the time. So just take it as a lesson. You did something wrong, it’s a signal, it’s a sign. You just have to go back to the drawing board and get yourself back together and get back on."
