Taking lessons learned from season four’s changes to World’s Edge, Respawn hastorn apart the classic King’s Canyon map which has been around since launch. Narratively, Loba’s excursions into the depths of labs hidden beneath the surface of the old arena have caused explosions leading to large sections of the map being unearthed, and the landscape of certain key locations being completely changed.
Skulltown and the Thunderdome have been sundered and instead replaced with the broken coast. This comes with a new location called Salvage and is a part of the shattered bones now lying in the crashing waves below. On the East side of the map there is now an offshore rig that replaces Relay while Wetlands has been dug up to reveal the Capacitor below. This includes a new way to enter and exit the underground Singh Labs. Nesting Ground has grown up and become the Reclaimed Forest, which contains more of the Singh Labs exterior.
Around the map you will find large glowing charge towers which can be interacted with. When activated they will fully charge the ultimate ability of any legend standing on the platform, be they friend or foe.

New Legend: Loba

First introduced in Revenant’s trailer, Loba is the daughter of someone executed by the cybernetic assassin and has since taken to a life of crime while continuing her hunt for a way to disable Revenant once and for all.
She is available for unlock as soon as you boot into season 5, and costs 12500 legend tokens, or 750 Apex coins if you are willing to pay.
Loba’s passive ability, called Eye for Quality lets her see epic and legendary tier loot through walls. This lets her choose a more optimal path when grabbing early game loot and makes her more likely to get powerful gear during the scrappy phases of a drop. It conveniently has the same range as Loba’s Ultimate below.
Her active ability is called Burglar’s Best Friend and lets her throw a Jump Drive bracelet like a grenade which she will teleport to when it reaches the ground. Using the fire button will force the Drive to the ground mid-flight letting you be more precise with the flight. This allows her to reposition and escape during combat, and get to hard to reach areas quickly, allowing her to loot up faster than her opponents. Loba’s high mobility means possible synergy with high mobility legends such as Pathfinder and Octane to move quickly across the map, or rapidly manoeuvre around opponents.
Black Market Boutique is Loba’s ultimate, which allows players to access all loot in an area from one pylon. Each player may take two items from the pylon, and all affected loot will still be in its original location until selected. This means that other players can still grab things from the ground if they are quick. All affected loot will be floating slightly, making it clear that Loba’s ult is active nearby, so be careful not to give yourself away when using this ability.

Gun changes

This is the only season that hasn't included a new weapon. However, many changes have been made to the weapon pool. The big change is that the peacekeeper has been moved to the care package pool, with its stats changed to increase its power and make it a crate-quality weapon worth fighting over. Which is terrifying. To fill the shotgun slot in the world’s spawns, the Mastiff is now available on the map, with its damage reduced.
The anvil receiver has been moved to the bin, no longer being available on the map. The Skullpiercer Rifling mod from season one and two has been reintroduced for the Longbow and Wingman, which gives them increased headshot damage. The base headshot damage has been slightly reduced, but the Skullpiercer hop up takes the headshot damage higher than it was in season four.
The Havoc has received some nerfs to increase its recoil after it took prominence in the tail end of season four. The Alternator and RE-45 have received minor buffs with the former getting increased magazine capacity, and the latter having it reloads speed increased and an extra point of damage per hit.
Finally, the gold tier armour has had its perk tweaked. The 50% heal speed has been removed and instead shield cells and syringes give double the amount of heal when used. This removes the effect that the level four armour has on shield battery, medkits, and phoenix kits, so only the smaller healing items receive a benefit from the legendary body armour.

Quests

Quests are a new progression mode for players to work through over the course of the season. The quests come with a text-based story, and a player versus enemy (PvE) hunt for you and your friends to play through. There will be one hunt per week for the entire season. To access each hunt, you need to find five treasure packs in matches, and only one can be collected per day. These packs contain credits, crafting metal, and apex packs as well as parts of the text-based story. Throughout the hunts, you will find pieces of an artefact, with nine needed to complete the puzzling story, and unlock the epic level Flatline skin, as well as an unknown legendary weapon charm.

A new season means a new battle pass and this is no exception. There are 110 levels to work through with two evolving weapon skins at the end for the Wingman. The theme of this battle pass is steampunk, with excellent sky pirate skins for Bangalore and Mirage, as well as the Wingman and Hemlock.
