The Polish landscape provided the perfect backdrop for the eighth round of the FIA World Rally Championship. The rain-soaked rally proved a handful for the drivers as the wet conditions cost more than just time for many racers. Ott Tänak, Sébastien Ogier and company learnt the hard way how unforgiving Rally Poland can be.

The importance of aerodynamics in World Rally

Losing a part of the bumper may look like a quick fix in the service park, but the time lost on stage due to lack of front (or rear) end grip is huge. Though the rally cars aren’t too different from their road going cousins, even the slightest of change in the structure of the car can make a big difference to its handling. While the big jumps look spectacular to the fans, the drivers would want to keep the car on all four in order to bring all of those 380bhp in action and propel forward.
