Red Bull Kasi Cup
Alexandra Stadium
Johannesburg, South Africa
Red Bull Kasi Cup returns to crown the kings of kasi football on Saturday 27 August 2022. The action will take place at Alex Stadium and will see four teams go head-to-head for the 2022 title.
Red Bull Kasi Cup shines a spotlight on up-and-coming gifted football players, validating their dreams of becoming the next big star of South African football. The tournament also plays a vital role in the grassroots development of football in South Africa - especially in areas rich in talent but without the opportunities and facilities to cultivate the potential that exists.
To bring more action to the field, this year’s tournament will see a Red Bull Twist added to the mix.
Red Bull Kasi Cup has partnered with four local legends and gives an opportunity to budding and gifted football players to showcase their talent and validate their dreams of becoming the next big star of South African football. The tournament also plays an important role in the grassroots development of the sport in South Africa - especially in areas with a pool of talent but minimal opportunities and facilities to nurture the potential that is there. Since the first tournament in 2019, Red Bull Kasi Cup has supported and impacted over 3 000 individuals across Gauteng.
The tournament has a unique format as there are only three matches – two semi-final matches and one final match. The teams participating are winners of the four major existing kasi football tournaments in and around Gauteng. The teams participating in this year’s Red Bull Kasi Cup are:
- Bhekilanga FC - Tebogo Mokoena Tournament
- Chego 17 - Malombo Lichaba Tournament
- Basil FC - Steve Sekano Tournament
- Munsieville Magical Galacticos FC - Joseph Makhanya Tournament
The competing teams have played and won in four major existing kasi football tournaments in and around Gauteng founded by our very own soccer legends; Tebogo Mokoena, Malombo Lichaba, Steve Sekano, and Joseph Makhanya. These legends understand the importance of grooming talent from a young age and giving opportunities to players to showcase their skills.
The main event will take place on 27 August 2022 at Alex Stadium and will be three matches (two semi-finals and one final with competing teams). In addition to its unique format this year’s tournament also features a twist: If a player suffers a 'shibobo' by another player, they will have to sit on the bench for five minutes which will surely make the players bring their A-game on the day.
With the stakes so high, the Red Bull Kasi Cup promises to give an adrenaline-pumped, heart pumping and palms sweating afternoon where only the strong will emerge victorious.
