The FIFA eNations Stay n Play Cup begins on Tuesday 21 April and will see the world’s best footballers join forces with the world’s best gamers to compete in an international online competition. The tournament will see 40 nations compete in 3 sections. The winners of each section will win a prize money donation to be awarded to their national charity organisation that is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The South African Football Association has named the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund as the chosen charity.
Joining YvngSavage as part of the eBafana Bafana team is musician Cassper Nyovest, Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada and Bafana Bafana, as well as Mamelodi Sundowns player, Sibusiso Vilakazi. The idea behind the FIFA eNations Stay n Play Cup is to encourage football fans around the world to stay at home and do their bit to flatten the curve.
Yvng Savage says he was extremely excited to receive the invitation to compete for the national team:
“I was so surprised when I got the invitation! I’ve been working really hard and putting in a lot of practice to up my game over the past few months, so I’m very grateful to see that it is bearing fruit. I’m excited to get the chance to represent myself, my team and my nation in such a cool and unique tournament. I will do my best to make everyone, especially my mom who has been my biggest supporter and the most incredible woman I know, proud.”
South Africa has notoriously struggled in international online tournaments because of ping issues, but YvngSavage says he never focuses on these things:
“Playing with delay is always concerning for everyone and it isn’t ideal, but if that is the condition we have to play in so be it. I will do my absolute best to compete to the best of my abilities regardless.”
The young player is extremely excited to have the opportunity to partner up with a professional Bafana Bafana player and to compete against professional FIFA players from overseas clubs. He says he believes South Africa can put on a good show:
“South Africa has some really great FIFA players, from a competitive gamer perspective and from a professional sports perspective (pro football players who game) who are able to compete against the best in the world. If me and my Bafana Bafana team mate play some good FIFA and we secure win after win, I believe we can make it very far in the tournament.”
All the matches can be followed on the various FIFA and EA social platforms, with recaps aired on SuperSport after the games.
