Feeling the heat at Rally Sweden

Turns out there was some warmth at this year’s ice-cold rally, as our thermal-imaging camera proved.

Rally Sweden is not an event known for its warmth. Temperatures at the all-snow rally have dropped as low as -25ºC in previous years, with the poor team mechanics struggling to do their jobs in the freezing conditions.
But of course, even in the cold, rally cars and their components – especially the disc brakes on all four corners of the machines – still get red-hot. To prove that, we used a FLIR thermal imaging camera cunningly built into Caterpillar's S60 smartphone to shoot the drivers on the stages. Check out the amazing images below.
