Which CS GO map would pros ban forever?
Which CS GO map would pros ban forever?
To try and find out which map is the least popular between the pro players we headed over to IEM Katowice and asked as many pro players as we could find what map they would ban forever. Some choices may surprise you – hit play on the video above to watch, and scroll down for the overall scores.
Overpass – One vote
It’s a bit of a surprise to see anyone vote for Overpass, but Hiko bucked the trend and went with it. Generally speaking most players like the map and pretty much every top team can play it reasonably well. It’s not the most exciting, but it is a stable fixture of the active map pool. Hiko might hate it, but he is certainly in the minority, so his wish of a permanent ban probably won't happen anytime soon.
Dust2 – Two votes
If Dust2 hadn’t already been removed from the active map pool then this number would probably have been a little higher. Despite being one of the most famous maps, not just in Counter-Strike but in games in general, over the last few years the pro players have started to sour on it. A lack of changes and millions of matches played meant that almost every pro player knows how to play every area of the map near perfectly and it started to get a little boring. Hopefully changes will see it return to its former glory.
Inferno – Two votes
Having only recently re entered the map pool Inferno is still a tough one to call. Most teams play it pretty well now, but it still doesn't feel like any of the top teams have truly figured out the map. Interestingly both of Inferno’s votes came from Cloud9 players with both Jake ‘Stewie2k’ Yip and Jordan ‘n0thing’ Gilbert giving it the boot. Inferno is Cloud9’s second least played match and their least successful, so this probably isn't much of a surprise.
Nuke – Three votes
When Nuke returned to the active map pool last year almost no one played it for quite some time. Its smaller indoor corridors and limited long sightlines make it a very different map to the rest of the map pool and as a result a lot of teams don’t like to play it still. Perhaps this is a surprise endorsement of sorts – we’re actually surprised it only got three vote. If you had asked us coming into this we would have had it way higher, and potentially even taking the whole thing.
Cache – Four votes
Cobble – Six votes
Ask a pro player what map needs some kind of rework the answer is usually Cobble. While we asked a slightly different question the same logic still applies. Players just do not like this map. While in pubs it seems like everyone wants to play this map, when it comes to the pro scene a lot of players are much more reticent. Random, difficult to execute and ‘what the hell is drop all about’ are accusations that are usually tied to the map, and many think it just isn’t good enough to be in pro play.
So there you have it, Cobble is the map that the pros would ban forever. Cache surprisingly came close, but could not unseat Cobble, while Nuke got away somewhat lightly. Will things changes when Dust2 comes into the pool again?
