Juarez is known as ground zero for Mexico's deadly drug war, where more than 11,000 people were killed between 2007 and 2012. Though homicides tapered a bit in 2013, Juarez is still one of the deadliest cities in Mexico. Yet at the same time, Juarez is home to Hardpop, a dance club that was founded in 2006 and has since grown into one of the top night spots in the world, according to DJ Mag in the UK.
Hardpop's founder is Ricardo Tejada, who spent years living and promoting parties in London. Through those connections, he's been able to pull top-level artists, such as James Lavelle, Magda and Deadmau5. The above video takes you into the club during one weekend last October to meet the DJs, the people who run Hardpop and the club goers, all of who have contributed to the city's unique success story.
