Frenchman Clément Noël kept his cool to claim his second Wengen slalom victory in a row at the FIS World Cup, after a sterling opening run saw off Henrik Kristoffersen on Sunday.
The stylish skier from the Vosges region beat rival Kristoffersen by a massive 0.67s in the morning run, with compatriot Alexis Pinturault back in fourth place. Norwegian Kristoffersen recorded the eighth best time of the second run to give Noël something to think about, but, despite several scares, he managed to hold him off.
Noël now has five FIS World Cup victories, all in slalom, with Russian Alexander Khoroshilov producing an excellent second run to grab a podium place in third.
"It was a decent second run, even if it wasn't perfect. There was a bit of pressure, but you just have to learn how to deal with it. I'm super happy," said Noël.
The 22-year-old now moves up to second in the FIS World Cup slalom standings with 340 points, as 2016 slalom champion Kristoffersen kept his lead with 402. Kristoffersen regained the FIS World Cup overall lead however, with 691 points, 78 ahead of Pinturault, who skied out in the second run to complete a weekend to forget.
