Lindsey Vonn, who's still on the comeback after breaking her right arm in November, became the oldest female medalist in the FIS Ski World Championships' history and the first American alpine skier to earn a medal at five World Championships after taking third in the downhill race at St. Moritz, Switzerland.
While getting back from injury in her typical speedy way, Vonn admitted to not being 100% confident going into the World Championship downhill race. However her time of 1m33.30s was enough to secure a place on the podium behind Stephanie Venier and eventual champion Ilka Stuhec, and Vonn was visibly grateful.
It’s been a difficult season. I’m very thankful for a medal. Now I have a medal in downhill [at the World Championships] in every colour, pretty damn cool. All things considered, it was a really great performance
Vonn's impressive collection now boasts two Gold medals, three Silvers and two Bronzes since making her debut at the 2007 World Championships.
She joked afterwards, "Not bad for an old lady!"
Slovenian skier Stuhec, who'd been one of the favorites for the title, delivered a stunning run with speeds of up to 125kph to beat Venier by a margin of 0.4 seconds.
