Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe have revealed their eight-rider lineup for the 2026 Vuelta a España, with four-time winner Primož Roglič set to lead the team when the race gets underway on August 22.
While Roglič’s General Classification ambitions will be assessed as the race develops following his recent injury and disrupted preparations, the team will also target stage victories throughout the three weeks, with adaptability likely to prove key from the Grand Départ in Monaco to the finish in Granada on September 13.

Primoz Roglič returns to familiar territory in Spain

Few riders have a relationship with La Vuelta quite like Roglič. His four overall victories put him alongside Roberto Heras as the race’s joint record holder, but after his preparations were disrupted by a recent crash, the opening stages will provide a clearer indication of what is possible this time around.

I have a very good history with the Vuelta and I always enjoy racing there

“Primož's preparations have been very different from what we originally anticipated after his crash," said Vanthourenhout. “We will assess things step by step and support him to achieve the best possible GC result, but we also have to be ready to adapt if necessary.”
Roglič himself is taking a similarly measured approach as he prepares to return to a race that has brought him so much success.
“I have a very good history with the Vuelta and I always enjoy racing there,” said the 36-year-old Slovenian. "Winning it four times is already something I could never have imagined, so I don't want to put extra pressure on myself. We will take it day by day, do everything we can as a team and try to achieve the best possible outcome."

Different routes to stage success

While Roglič targets the GC, the versatility of the lineup gives Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe several routes to stage success.
On the faster days, Meeus will have opportunities in the sprints while also playing his part in the wider team effort.
“Jordi will have his own opportunities in the sprints, but at the same time he will also be committed to the team effort,” said Vanthourenhout. “We want to give him chances to sprint while making sure that everything fits within the wider objectives.”
Fisher-Black offers a different threat. Returning for his third Vuelta, the New Zealander is well suited to breakaways, reduced groups and selective finales.

My goal is to finish, learn as much as I can and be a good teammate whenever the team needs me

“There are so many unknowns with a first Grand Tour that I don't want to put a specific result on it,” said Tuckwell. “My goal is to finish, learn as much as I can and be a good teammate whenever the team needs me.”
Thornley will take a similarly developmental approach while retaining the freedom to enter breakaways when the opportunity arises. The second individual time trial could also provide a chance to play to his strengths.

Experience completes the lineup

Gianni Vermeersch and Gianni Moscon bring valuable experience to the squad, with Vermeersch taking on a leadership role on the road and Moscon supporting Roglič, particularly on flat and technically demanding stages where positioning and control will be crucial.
Frederik Wandahl completes the eight-rider lineup and adds further tactical versatility, both in support and in breakaways.

“We are very happy to have Frederik in the team,” said Vanthourenhout. “He has very good tactical race intelligence, and that's something we want to use, whether that means getting into breakaways, taking opportunities or supporting the team.”
With eight riders offering different strengths, Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe head to Monaco with a versatile squad ready to adapt to whatever the three weeks of racing throws at them, and they're planning to make the most of every opportunity along the way.
