The ambitious young climber conquers a new route and names it for Nelson Mandela.

Sasha DiGiulian has made a habit out of impressing the climbing community both in sport climbs and competition, and despite being a full-time student at New York City's Columbia University, she's not showing any signs of slowing down.

She traveled to South Africa recently and found a striking rock face with a route that had been laid out for climbers to attempt years ago, but no one had successfully completed since. Watch the video above to see the challenges she faced.
By completing the route, she earned the right to name it. She chose ‘Rolihlahla,’ Nelson Mandela’s middle name. On the same trip, she completed another first ascent, which you can read about in the interview link above.
