The padel kings reclaim their throne

It hasn’t been an easy start to the season for the world's top seeds Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello. Despite a promising beginning that saw them lift the trophy at the Riyadh P1, the inaugural event of the season, Agustín Tapia has been dealing with a hand injury since then that has prevented the pair from performing at their best level. This prompted their surprising semi-final exit in the Miami P1 against third-ranked pair Juan Lebrón – Franco Stupazcuk.
With Tapia fully recovered, it was showtime in Qatar. In the most anticipated final in the padel world against Miami and Santiago tournament winners Alejandro Galán – Federico Chingotto, Tapia and Coello's relentless pace made the difference.
The first set was packed with highlights, as both teams fought tooth and nail to get to the tie break. Coello and Tapia's heavy pressure at the net forced Chingotto to err two consecutive lobs at 5-4, deciding the set in favor of the top seeds 7-4.

In the second set, Tapia and Coello immediately picked up the pace to a level that seems reserved only for them. Chingotto and Galán couldn't figure out a way to slow them down and before they could start to contain their opponents, Tapia and Coello had already put the decisive 6-2 on the scoreboard that allowed them to lift their second trophy of the season and repeat their Qatar Major crown from last year. The battle between the top two seeds will likely continue to be one of the season's main storylines.
Third-seeded pairing Juan Lebrón - Franco Stupaczuk had to withdraw from Qatar, with 'Stupa' sustaining an injury that will also keep him out for the upcoming Brussels P2 event. With his teammate unable to compete, Juan Lebrón, will pair up with lefty Álex Ruiz for the Belgium stop.

Three-in-a-row for Triay and Brea

The women's tournament needed a high-stakes final after the previous final showdown at the Santiago P1 was suspended due to high humidity and rain that made it impossible to keep playing.
The Qatar Major final provided fans with a chance for redemption, replaying the Santiago P1 final that never was: an epic matchup between the world’s top two seeds Ariana Sánchez – Paula Josemaría and second-seeded Gemma Triay – Delfina Brea.

From the start both teams showed why they're the top two pairs in the world, playing an extremely precise and strong brand of padel. Despite Sánchez and Josemaría grabbing an early lead in the first set, Triay and Brea seemed to hold on to the momentum they were bringing into the tournament to turn the tables and win the first set 6-4.
The second set followed an almost identical script, with Josemaría and Sánchez unable to hold on to the 4-1 lead they were enjoying and Triay – Brea going after the comeback with their signature mix of aggressive shots and exquisite tactics. They achieved their goal of surprising the top pair to win 6-4, 6-4.
Just like in the men's side, the clash between the top two seeds is marking the start of the season, with the power dynamics clearly shifting for now to Triay and Brea's side. They're currently the most dominant team on tour and will look to extend their incredible streak to four consecutive wins in the next tournament.
