We have exactly what you need right now: an advance stream of the brand spanking new ProbCause album.
"Drifters," the Chicago rapper's latest project, is officially out Aug. 28 via Gramatik’s Lowtemp label. But you can listen to it below, one day early, to get you stoked for the official drop.
"[This album] is much more musical than anything I've made in the past," says ProbCause. "It combines my favorite parts of all my favorite genres. I really like the idea of weaving my voice between jazzy trumpets, classical violins, digital drums and making it all fit together somehow. I also produced, sang, rapped, wrote and did all the artwork for the project, so I feel like it's even more hands on than anything I've done in the past."
Among the featured artists on "Drifters" are fellow Chicago rappers Twista and Saba (a Red Bull Sound Select artist). And there are production credits by Gramatik, the Geek x Vrv, Exmag, GRiZ, Drew Mantia, Cofresi, Wes P, Break Science and Mike Irish. There's also live instrumentation.
"I've always loved fusing live instrumentation with my music," explains ProbCause. "I work with a lot of really talented musicians in Chicago so it was a very organic thing to involve them in the production process. Will Miller from a band called the O'My's plays horns on a lot of the songs and really helped take the album to another level."
"I'm a very collaborative person so the more musicians involved the better," he continues. "I had a list of producers that I had met and become friends with while playing at some festivals last summer and I knew if I could get them all together on one project I could create a really unique sound."
Both Saba and the O'My's will open for some of the gigs on ProbCause's upcoming Drifters Tour. Check out the dates below. For more details, go to the ProbCause website.
