The incredibly intense 10 days of KTM action start with Practice and Qualifying this Friday in Italy. Beñat Fernandez heads the points table as he has done since winning the first race of the season in Jerez back in April. The 18-year-old Spaniard has not had things his own way since then at all.
He has won 3 times in all and finished on the podium for another 3 races. But the 2 falls and no points from the Sachsenring were desperately expensive.
Tough at the top
By taking his second win of the season in Germany, Kiandra Ramadhipa propelled himself back into the reckoning, jumping from 6th to 3rd in the points table.
Ryota Ogiwara closed his points gap to Fernandez dramatically by winning Race 1 in Germany, but the Japanese also fell in Race 2 otherwise, he could have taken the points lead. He turns 18 this week and is just 17 points behind Fernandez. Ramadhipa is 47 off the lead, but there are still 100 points on offer.
Even Fernando Bujosa, the 17-year-old Spaniard in 4th, 51 points adrift of Fernandez, could take the Cup if the season concludes in a dramatic fashion.
Moving on up
David González is another point behind, but the Spanish 18-year-old has already been snapped up by the Intact Grand Prix Team for a full-time World Championship ride. He scored points on his debut with 14th in Silverstone.
Heading to the Adriatic, ex-Rookies lead all 3 World Championships. Misano starts early on Sunday with the 250th Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race before those World Championship battles progress.
The 15-lap Rookies Cup Race 1 is scheduled for 16.10 on Saturday, with Race 2 at 8.45 on Sunday. To clinch the title before the final weekend in Austria will require a 50-point lead. Fernandez is the only one who could achieve that, but it seems more likely that the battle will go all the way to the final races at the Red Bull Ring.
